Alex Staniforth

Co-founder & Trustee

Alex is a record-breaking adventurer, ultra-runner and published author from Cheshire. At just 29 he has already survived the two biggest disasters in Mount Everest history. In the Nepal earthquake of 2015 he was trapped at Camp 1 when still a teenager.

However, his biggest challenges have been much closer to home: dealing with depression, eating disorders, epilepsy, stammering and bullying since childhood. The outdoors has long been Alex's toolkit for managing the peaks and troughs of his mental health.

He’s raised over £100,000 for charity, becoming the fastest person to climb all 100 UK county tops, covering 5,000 miles in 72 days and winning the Pride of Britain Granada Report’s 'Fundraiser of the Year'. Having experienced the lack of support first-hand, Alex co-founded Mind Over Mountains in 2020 so that everyone has access to the support they need and gain time outdoors. He fondly refers to the charity as the ‘Natural Health Service.’
